In a bizarre partnership that challenges usual forecasts, Ubisoft has unveiled an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering free additional story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Adventure Disclosed

According to the official release, "A strange meeting pulls characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original mission, where whispers of banned practices and monstrous changes echo through the obscurity." The plot introduces a "oddly dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a clandestine sect.

The adventure centers on "bizarre tests and a terrifying foe" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Places and Metamorphoses

The trailer features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser concludes with a dramatic scene showing a character, presumably the prisoner, changing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Prizes and Extra Material

Players who successfully complete the adventure will receive an exclusive katana in addition to several items hidden throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Special implements
• Survey Corps mount

Newest Free Story Content

This release also adds the game's newest no-cost story episode, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted adventure pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature techniques: Naoe reveals a dramatic variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Partnerships

This represents hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime properties. The series previously showcased a 2020 crossover story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla informally featured a quest that clearly referenced the popular series One-Punch Man.
